Nick Macarchuk – Nick was the first head coach for the basketball program at STM.  He coached at STM from 1964 to 1972.   He won the New England Prep School Championships four times while preparing his players for intercollegiate athletics.  He left STM to become the assistant coach at Providence College under Hall of Fame Coach Dave Gavitt.  Nick’s first head coaching position was at Canisius College which he held for 10 years.    He then coached at Fordham University for 12 years and Stonybrook University for 6.  Nick received Coach of the Year recognition at Fordham 4 times and at Canisius 3 times.  As a player, Nick was an All-East selection in 1962 and 1963 at Fairfield University.  He is a member of Fairfield’s Hall of Fame and the New England Basketball Hall of Fame.  Nick is the longest standing member of The STM Board of Directors and he is now Director of the Connecticut Basketball School held at STM for over 50 years.

1992 New England Prep Basketball Championship Team – This team finished the preseason and regular seasons with a combined record of 31-1.  They opened the year winning a regional AAU Tournament held in New Haven and were so good they were banished from future events.  They are the closest group to attaining an undefeated season, losing once at the buzzer in overtime to MCI at home on Martin Luther King Day.  Tom Konchalski, five star recruiting legend and Hall of Fame nominee, called this particular game the best played prep game in history.  STM convincingly defeated MCI in the rematch at the Prep School Finals.  Team members were Bob Freitas, Steve Frazier, Charles Minlend, James Thomas, Brendan McCarthy, Jerome Grier, Pete Philo, Ed Eusebio, Dan Curtin, Terrell Dozier, Steve Silas, assistant coach Kent Pope and Jere Quinn.

He played his collegiate football at Boise State earning all-conference honors in 2009 and 2010.  Venable had a seven-year professional career, one year with the Chicago Bears and six in the Canadian Football League.  He was named a CFL All-Star in 2015.

Ron Schlageter – Teacher/coach at STM since 1986. “Schlags” has taught and coached various sports at STM for 33 years.  Ron has coached football, basketball, baseball and one year of hockey totaling between 70-80 total athletic seasons.  Ron spent over a decade as the Head Coach for the varsity basketball and baseball teams, winning the SENE Basketball Championship in 1996.  He has assisted the Prep basketball team and held a variety of coaching positions on the football team, mainly the defensive coordinator.  Throughout the 2018-2019 school year, Schlags assisted football, basketball, and baseball and continued his role at the Math and Science Department Chair.

Ernie “D” was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.

The 2006 Undefeated New England Prep Football Team – This team was designed of underclassmen and post-graduates.  Prep School rules, at the time, limited the number of post-graduates to six.  They opened the season with a hard fought victory over the Gunnery School 13-6 by returning a fumble from a sack toward the end of the game.  From there, they improved and realed off 7 more regular season games while winning The Colonial League.  This recognition offered them a spot in championship game against heavily favored Hebron Academy.  STM dominated the game 27-7.  Head Coach was Tim Riordan, ’79 and assistant coaches were Ron Schlageter and Drew Riggs.  Captains were Winston Venable, Victor Adesanya, and Rahoo Walker.  Another member of this team is our current Head Coach Ernest Anderson.  Team members continued their football careers at the Division 1, 2 and 3 levels.

At the start of the 2018-2019 season, Trinity was tied for the best four-year NESCAC record with 28 wins and just 12 losses.  Prior to Trinity, Cosgrove posted a 166-77 record at Division II Adelphi University over eight seasons, and also served as Head Coach at Endicott College.  Cosgrove was named as the East Coast Conference (ECC) Coach of the Year in 2004-05 and as the Metropolitan Writers Association Division II Coach of the Year in both 2004-05 and 2005-06.  At Endicott, Cosgrove accumulated a 73-60 record including an 18-10 record in 1999-00, the program’s first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship title, and its first bid to the NCAA Tournament.  His 1998-99 Endicott team won the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular-season crown and earned Cosgrove GNAC Coach of the Year honors.  Jamie continues to give back to STM by volunteering to meet and speak with the student body and has been a guest lecturer at Career Day and STM alumni events for the past decade.
